What is IN TOUCH ?

¨ In Touch is a telephone befriending service available to people over 60 living in the London Borough of Camden. Started in 1998, In Touch is now one of the most successful telephone befriending service for older people in this country.  The project, over the years, has won a string of awards for its work to improve the quality of life of older people in Camden and good practice with volunteers.  In recognition of its expertise in telephone befriending, In Touch is widely consulted and has helped to set up similar schemes nationwide.  ¨ In Touch was created to help reduce the feelings of isolation many older, and sometimes, vulnerable people experience, by arranging for new ‘phone friends’ to call them regularly in their own homes.  The service is free, caring, personal, and unhurried. ¨ In Touch now has well over 150 participants many of who both make and receive phone calls.  Some people not able to volunteer in other ways find In Touch offers them a rewarding opportunity to both give and receive. Because of this, In Touch members develop a unique sense of personal ownership in the success of the project.
